Of Thee I Sing

It's Just For Fun Friday! On JFFF, we review items and activities that you can do with your kids in order to increase their cultural competence and diversity awareness.

We're back to another book! Yay! I am so book obsessed, I could easily do JFFF on books alone. In an effort to be inclusive, I do branch out. But if there was one item I had to focus on each time, books would definitely be it. And this week's book is special because it's by the sitting United States President. "Of Thee I Sing" is such a lovely book with really beautiful illustrations. And it highlights some of the people that made America what it is today. Some of the people you read about in every history book and some you never hear about. But every person is important and highlights a part of American culture that I think kids should know about. Your kids will learn some new people in American culture and there are so many different discussions you can have based on who was included in the book... and who wasn't.

After you watch the video, print out the page below for a quick reference guide on this activity and suggestions for ways to use it. There's also a link below to buy this fabulous book.

How will you use this book? Have you read it before? What do you think your child's favorite person will be? Leave a comment below.

Most of all enjoy the video. And don't forget to HAVE FUN!

Thanks for reminding me about of Thee I Sing. Zoe and Elle want me to read it to them tonight. Great segment!
