It's Just For Fun Friday! On JFFF, we review items and activities that you can do with your kids in order to increase their cultural competence and diversity awareness. This item is for those kids who love to draw - kids who are artsy. I would not say that I was an artsy kid growing up, but I really loved to draw (poorly) and I think that a lot of kids do. If your kid enjoys chilling out with some markers and a piece of paper (or the wall, whatever) then I've got the perfect thing for you. Like many other markers, these are washable. Unlike many other markers, they represent a range of skin tones: Crayola Washable Multicultural Markers. How cool is that? Check out the video for tips on how to use them then go create something really cool with your artsy kid. After you watch the video, print out the page below for a quick reference guide on how to use the markers to develop diversity awareness. There's also a link below to buy the markers (or colored pencils if you prefer). How will you use these markers? Do you see your child using them to draw different shades of people or will you have to model it? How else might you use these besides just people? Leave a comment below. Most of all enjoy the video. And don't forget to HAVE FUN!
Check back next week for another Just For Fun Friday!

Multicultural markers - what a great idea! The worksheet gives some great strategies to get started. The book The Colors of Us could be utilized as well. Thanks Dr. Sweeney!
